Work Packages: Who’s who?

Summary

Who is who and who does what in the project? Here is a little introduction of our team.

WP1 - Management of the consortium

Operational objective

Ensure a timely project progress, overall coordinate project activities and ensure the efficiency of project implementation, monitoring, financial matters, logistics, information, quality and conformity to EC (European Commission) rules and procedures.

Tasks

1.1. Managerial duties.

  • Administrative and contractual management
  • Financial management
  • Organization of project meetings and implementation of decisions

1.2. Project implementation and reporting.

  • Overall coordination and progress monitoring of the project according to the work plan
  • Reporting, dissemination of information inside the consortium and communication with the EC officers
Composition

The Management Team includes two senior researchers, one at IRD and one at UnB, and one Project Manager.

Dr. Franck PoitrassonCNRS/ IRD (Centre national de la recherche scientifique/Institut de recherche pour le développement)

Email: Franck.Poitrasson@get.obs-mip.fr

Directeur de Recherches at CNRS, third party linked to IRD. Senior research collaborator at UnB. He currently leads the “Geochemistry of non-traditional isotope” research group at GET (Géosciences Environnement Toulouse ). He was formerly the scientific manager of the ICP-MS facility of OMP (Observatoire Midi-Pyrénées) in Toulouse, leader of the Mineralogy Team of GET and Invited Professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich (ETHZ). CV

Dr. Elton Luiz DantasIG/UnB (Instituto de Geociências da Universidade de Brasília)

Email : elton@unb.br

Level 1B Researcher of CNPq. Professor at UnB and the current director of Geochronos Lab within IG/UnB in Brasilia. He has experience with project management and geochronological studies. CV

Ms. Marina Hohl  – IRD/UnB

Email: marina.hohl@ird.fr

WP2 - Participation of EU researchers to the joint lab activities

Operational objective

Expand the research activities of the LMI-OCE (Laboratoire Mixte International-Observatoire des Changements Environnementaux) to researchers from and MS/AC (EU member states and FP7 associated countries), increasing the visibility and scientific excellence of the joint institute.

Tasks

2.1. Support to PhD students.

Grants for three PhD students from European partner universities during three years each. They carry out research work on topics defined on our research proposals. Each PhD student is co-supervised by senior scientists at UnB and at the EU partner university.

2.2. Post-doctoral researcher stays.

Grants for three Post Doc researchers during 15 months each. They carry out research work on topics defined on our research proposal. Each Post Doc researcher is co-advised by senior scientists at UnB and at the EU partner university.

2.3. Senior researchers short visits.

Senior scientists from EU MS/AC countries are invited to UnB for short research visits, and to give seminars.

2.4. Sampling field excursions.

Because field sampling and measurements appear to be needed by some research projects, CLIM-AMAZON will provide assistance for field mission organization and will fund plane tickets and per diems.

Composition

Dr. Martin Roddaz - WP2 Leader

Email: mroddaz@lmtg.obs-mip.fr

Maître de Conférences at Université Paul Sabatier Toulouse 3, member of Georessources Team at GET ( http://www.get.obs-mip.fr/profils/Roddaz_Martin) and member of Carnot Institute ISI-For (, http://carnot-isifor.eu/). He has participated or lead several field expeditions in the Amazon basin (Peru, Bolivia) since 2001. His main scientific interests include the understanding on controls on sediment production, transport and deposition in the Andes-Amazon system at both short and geological timescales. CV

WP3 - Enhancement of research capacities

Operational objective

Enhance the instrumental capacity of the Geochronos Lab linked to the development of the CLIM-AMAZON project, which implies to finalize the match between the needs of the project and the existing accommodation capacity, both in the lab and in the field.

Tasks

3.1. Laboratory and field equipment purchase and set up.

3.2. Recruitment of project staff members (two lab technicians).

3.3. Matching existing capacity for CLIM-AMAZON project needs (consumables).

Composition

WP4 - Workshops, conference and promotional activities

Operational objective

Communicate on the activities, knowledge and scientific results acquired by the project.

Tasks

4.1. Workshops and training seminars.

They will be organized at UnB to promote our research proposal among a wider international scientific community and to discuss the guidelines for future joint projects.

4.2. International Symposium.

It will be held at the end of the project (2015) in Manaus, a city located in the heart of the Amazon River basin and it will include keynote lectures, oral and poster sessions. A field trip will be proposed to present field activities developed in the CLIM-AMAZON project.

4.3. Promotion.

  • Visits to local authorities and communities in the five main cities of the Brazilian Amazon region (Porto Velho, Manaus, Boa Vista, Macapá and Belém). This will allow informing local stakeholders about the project and helping the integration of social demand within it.
  • Design of a website that presents the project, is aimed at potentializing a large audience and provides a useful communication tool for the project partners.
  • Creation of a brochure to present the CLIM-AMAZON objectives and the results of the research activities.
  • Publication of new scientific knowledge in top level peer-reviewed journals and at international conferences.

WP5 - Evolution of the CLIM-AMAZON project to an integrated EU-Brazil Centre

Operational objective

Study the possibility of transforming the CLIM-AMAZON project into a long-term institutional arrangement involving UnB, IRD and new European partners. This effort should lead to the constitution of an integrated EU–Brazil Centre focused on the relations between Climate, Hydrology, Erosion and SEDimentary transport and deposition in tropical regions (CHEESED).
