EU Partners

One of the INCO-LAB call's objectives is to include at least three additional FP7 MS/AC (EU Member States/Associated Countries) partners in the project to work with IRD and UnB on CLIM-AMAZON research proposals. To date, three PhD and three Post Doc subject proposals have been selected from six EU partner universities/institutions that are included in the CLIM-AMAZON consortium.

Stichting Koninklijk Nederlands Instituut Voor Zeeonderzoek - NIOZ, Den Burg, The Netherlands

The Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research - NIOZ is the national oceanographic institution for the Netherlands with a division on the Waddensea island of Texel and in Yerseke in the southwestern part of the Netherlands. Its mission is to gain and communicate scientific knowledge on seas and oceans for the understanding and sustainability of our planet. To this end, NIOZ facilitates and supports fundamental as well as applied marine research and education in the Netherlands and Europe. In addition, NIOZ supports the seagoing research for institutes and universities in the Netherlands.

Two NIOZ senior researchers and one Post Doc researcher are involved in the CLIM-AMAZON project. Research project.

Jacobs University Bremen Ggmbh - Jacobs Uni, Germany

Jacobs University is a highly selective, international, independent, residential university. Excellence and transdisciplinarity, diversity and community, and leadership and values are the pillars of a Jacobs education. Mission Geochemistry

One senior researcher and one PhD student are involved in the CLIM-AMAZON project. Research project.

Imperial College London, ICL, United Kingdom

Helmholtz-Zentrum Potsdam Deutsches GeoForschungsZentrum - GFZ, Potsdam, Germany

Helmholtz-Zentrum Potsdam, Deutsches GeoForschungsZentrum, GFZ, is the German national Research centre for Geosciences, hosting 1000+ staff and is active in all fields of Earth system observation and modeling. GFZ Section 3.4 “Earth Surface Geochemistry” is internationally recognised and leading in novel isotope techniques in the fluxes of the Earth surface and cosmogenic nuclide techniques. A leading laboratory in mass spectrometry, chemical separation, in-situ analysis using femtosecond laser ablation; method and instrument development, cosmogenic nuclide-based geomorphology, and “non-traditional” stable isotopes (Li, Mg, Si, Fe) as tracers of Earth surface processes.

One senior researcher and one PhD student are involved in the CLIM-AMAZON project. Research project.

Universiteit van Amsterdam - UvA, The Netherlands

A modern university with a rich history, the UvA (University of Amsterdam) traces its roots back to 1632, when the Golden Age school Athenaeum Illustre was established to train students in trade and philosophy. Today, with more than 30,000 students, 5,000 staff and 250 study programmes (Bachelor's and Master's), many of which are taught in English, and a budget of more than 600 million euros, it is one of the largest comprehensive universities in Europe. It is a member of the League of European Research Universities and also maintains intensive contact with other leading research universities around the world.

The mission of the IBED (Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics) is to increase our understanding of the diversity and dynamics of ecosystems from the level of molecules and genes to entire ecosystems. Its aim is to unravel how ecosystems function in all their complexity, and how they change due to natural processes and human activities. The focus in IBED lies on the study of two interlinked aspects:(i) how do organisms interact with one another and with their abiotic environment, and (ii) what are the dynamics that emerge from these interactions, both in space and in time.

One senior researcher and two Post Docs researchers (one shared Post Doc position) are involved in the CLIM-AMAZON project. Research project.

Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II - UNINA-DICEA, Italy

The foundation of the University of Naples - UNINA - was made by Frederick II Hohenstaufen, King of Sicily and Head of the Roman Empire on June 5th 1224. Currently the University of Napoli Federico II has more than 2500 professors and 3200 staffs and more than 85000 enrolled students. It has 26 Departments and offers more than 300 Courses at the undergraduate, graduate, PhD and Master level.

The Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering - DICEA - covers the areas of Construction, Transportation, Geotechnical, Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering and Applied Geology with 96 tenured and temporary professors and researchers. The DICEA has three main laboratories : Hydraulics, Geotechnical and Transportation Engineering. In addition, three other laboratories (Land use, Mobility and Environment, Analysis, Performance and detection using innovative technologies and Environmental Engineering) are available for teaching and research.
